Brainwashed

Brainwashed

When you look at a baby or a young child, do you think they have low self-esteem?

Do they worry about the size of their pants or what the scale says?

Do they wonder if they should go out or stay home because nothing fits right?

Are they embarrassed to get naked or look at themselves in the mirror?

Are they waiting to feel good about themselves until they lose some weight?

That is a solid ‘no, no, no, no, nope.’

So, what happened to us?

My theory is that we were brainwashed.

The Oxford Dictionary defines brainwashing: to make (someone) adopt radically different beliefs by using systematic and often forcible pressure.

Verbal messages from parents, teachers, actors / actresses, sports players, friends, books, magazines, TV, radio, internet, etc…

We have been forced into RADICALLY different beliefs about ourselves than what is natural or healthy for a human being.

And the worst part – once we believe these lies… we are the ones who spread them to others… forcibly… with our words.

We infect each other with nonsense about our weight and what a healthy person “looks like”.

The truth is that “healthy” is not a size or a weight.

HEALTHY IS A STATE OF MIND.

In the wise words of my mom, “my thinking about my body is so harmful, maybe I need a little brain washing?!”

Once you understand that your thinking was downgraded, you can take measures to UPgrade your thinking too.

You can adopt radically different beliefs around food, your body, weight loss, and health.

One way to do that is with verbal messages and consistent action.

I encourage you to take less than 10 minutes a day to listen to this guided meditation session I have created for you.

Remember, repetition is the mother of all learning.

Repeat this session every day for the next week and begin to notice the positive changes of your beliefs.
